(Greensburg, Pa.) State Senator Kim Ward is reminding senior citizens that many state and local government offices, including her district offices, can provide assistance when filing for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax or Rent Rebate Program forms.
“We received calls concerned about a California-based company called the Senior Advisory Center. They are soliciting seniors through the mail offering to complete the form for them for a $41 fee,” Ward said.
In response to her inquiry the Department of Revenue said it was aware of the solicitation and said it is not illegal to advertise and charge a fee.
However, Ward said, many local tax collectors, the county tax office as well as the Area Agency on Aging and the Department of Revenue’s office in Greensburg provide assistance in filling out the forms at no charge to the resident.
Sen. Ward’s District Offices are in Greensburg at (724) 600-7002, Latrobe (724) 537-7650, Mt. Pleasant Twp. (724) 424-9925 (Tuesday and Thursday) and North Huntingdon Twp. (724) 863-1038 (Tuesday and Thursday).
