Senate Republican Caucus Files Intervention on Gov. Wolf’s Lawsuit, SB 106

HARRISBURG – Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward (R-39) today offered the following statement regarding the Senate Republican Caucus’ decision to file an intervention to join Gov. Wolf’s lawsuit against the General Assembly.

“Today the Senate Republican Caucus filed an intervention with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court regarding Gov. Wolf’s lawsuit against the General Assembly. This lawsuit, based in politics, demonstrates another attempt by Gov. Wolf to mute the voices of millions of Pennsylvanians by taking away the power granted to them by the constitution. At stake are important issues related to the integrity of our elections, including voter ID and post-election audits. Additionally, voters need to determine if tax dollars should be used to pay for abortions and decide if abortion should be singled out as a special type of healthcare to be recognized in the Pennsylvania Constitution. Gov. Wolf’s lawsuit is a legal move to bypass the public vetting process denying Pennsylvanians proper consideration of the proposed amendments. Given the people have already overridden Gov. Wolf once and the Wolf Administration’s high-profile failures on Constitutional amendments in recent years, it comes as no surprise they are choosing to run to the courts rather than allow Pennsylvanians to decide what is best for them and how their tax dollars should be spent. We have confidence in the people of Pennsylvania to see through this political charade.”
