Sen. Kim Ward Honors Mt. Pleasant Mayor Gerald D. Lucia with Memorial Highway Designation

HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Senator Kim Ward (R-39) today announced the Senate approved legislation designating a portion of Pennsylvania Route 31 in Mt. Pleasant Twp. as a Memorial Highway honoring former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Gerald D. Lucia.

“Affectionately referred to as ‘Jerry,’ Mayor Lucia served as the mayor of Mt. Pleasant for 36 years,” said Ward. “Jerry was the personification of community and public service and was loved by many as demonstrated by the honors he received including Mt. Pleasant Citizen of the Year in 2006 and Pennsylvania’s State Mayor of the Year in 2016.”

Senate Bill 1047, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, passed the state Senate unanimously and will now go to the House of Representatives for consideration. State Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-58th) will help champion the legislation in the House.

“From his leadership in local government to his almost 50 years in the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, 31 of which he served as chief, Jerry was a shining example of selfless dedication and hometown pride,” said Davanzo. “Mount Pleasant is a better place because of Jerry’s guidance and dedication and hopefully, this small honor will make certain that his family, friends and the entire community always remember how much he cared and how well he served.”

Jerry is survived by his wife Diana son Jerry and Daughter Nicole.
