HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (R-39) issued the following statement regarding Senate passage of the Save Women’s Sports Act:

“The Save Women’s Sports Act (Senate Bill 1293) overwhelmingly passed the Senate with bipartisan support with a 30-17 vote. The bipartisan nature of this vote sends a clear message to the House of Representatives that republicans and democrats alike agree it’s time for Pennsylvania to put female athletes across our commonwealth first and leave performative politics on the sidelines by ensuring a fair, safe and level playing field for female athletes.

“80% of people believe that biological men should not compete in women’s sports. The NCAA updated its policy for the women’s category to be student athletes assigned female at birth. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has ruled that female athletes will compete against biological women starting with the 2028 Summer Olympics. The IOC also acknowledged its rationale for their decision was biological males have a 10-12% performance advantage in running and swimming, and more than 100% in punching sports. It’s time for our democrat colleagues in the House and our governor to acknowledge these facts by advancing this bill to ensure that when female athletes walk on the field, dive into the pool or enter a ring they know they are competing fairly. Let’s put the safety, protection and fairness of our female athletes first.”
