GREENSBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (R-39) issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s signing off on the partnership between Nippon and U.S. Steel:
“President Trump kept his promise to revitalize the steel industry by securing the largest deal in its history: the $28 billion Nippon/U.S. Steel agreement. This transformative investment will not only sustain but also create a combined total of 25,500 jobs right here in Pennsylvania. It marks a new era for domestic steel and reaffirms our position as a global leader in the industry.
“As we move forward, it’s critical that state, local and community leaders work together to support this project. That means forging strong partnerships with businesses and all levels of government and ensuring that the permitting and regulatory processes move swiftly to allow for the vital upgrades that will keep the steel industry competitive and cutting-edge.
“Steel is part of Pennsylvania’s proud heritage. It helped build this country, powered by the grit and grace of the workers who have always fought to keep America strong. Today is another great day for western Pennsylvania and for the future of American steel.”
